What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you imagine how you are going to enjoy your summer holidays?

There is something for everyone. Beach, sun and a cold beer or, alternatively, you can opt for the mountains, hiking and enjoying nature.

Anyway, today we are going to tell you about one of our favourite places in the Spanish geography and, more specifically, in the Mediterranean area: Vera (Almeria) and why it is a small paradise full of magical places to discover.

What makes Vera different?

Vera is a municipality located in the province of Almeria full of hidden places and destinations that make it a unique place.

In a manner of speaking, Vera covers an extension inland from the coast, although the municipality, to all intents and purposes, extends all the way to the seashore. It is the coastal area that has the most commercial activity, as well as restaurants and accommodation options.

One of Vera’s main assets is the year-round high temperatures, with minimum temperatures ranging between 7 and 10 degrees Celsius and average maximums of 31 degrees.

The summer months are characterised by a climate that is certainly humid and warm, with mild winters with gusts of wind.

Vera, discover its incredible beaches

Vera beach is one of the longest and widest beaches in the area. It stands out for its fun beach bars where you can enjoy a refreshing drink or taste the local gastronomy. Of course, one of its strong points is to enjoy a refreshing cocktail with its sunsets.

Beaches of crystal clear water and fine sand, located between rocks that delight all tourists, and you can even find spaces or small coves where you can almost enjoy a small beach area in exclusivity.

In this case, the beaches that make up the municipality of Vera are located to the north of the main tourist centres of Garrucha and Mojácar, specifically from Puerto Rey to Villaricos, but as previously mentioned, the real town of Vera is located further inland.

However, to avoid surprises, you should know that, in Vera, nudism is a recognised and authorised practice, for which it is well known throughout Europe and which attracts thousands of tourists every year who like to enjoy nudism. For this reason, there are even resorts exclusively for nudist tourists.

The best Mediterranean gastronomy

The gastronomy in Vera is equal to a mixture of aromas, flavours, colours and a part of its history.

Faithful to the gastronomy and ingredients that place the Mediterranean diet as the best and most balanced in the world, Vera’s cuisine does not forget its Arabic traces either, fruit of its past in Al-Andalus, with dishes and spices that seem to transport us immediately to another place.

Of course, the local confectionery takes a look back at its history and the different cultures that have passed through it.

But, if there is one thing you can’t miss in Vera, it is the traditional tapas. The traditional local cuisine and the Mediterranean cuisine are always present and, together with the temperatures that we find, allow us to enjoy the terraces and the open air evenings while we taste the best “tapas” next to the beach.

A town full of history

To stroll through the streets of Vera is to enter into our history.

From its belonging to Al-Andalus to the vestiges of the Christian reconquest and how these have endured in the history and monuments of Vera, we find a thousand corners that evoke us to past times.

To highlight a few places, one of them is in the Plaza Mayor. Here we can find the Church of La Encarnación, built in the 15th century as a defensive fortress. Its architecture makes it a point of international interest due to its Gothic and Baroque elements and its perfect state of conservation.

From there, we can take a short walk to the Town Hall, built in the 16th century and where we find the Archaeological Museum where it is sure to surprise both adults and children with its historical past and thanks to the archaeological objects it conserves and the permanent exhibition of Vera’s craft trades.

A town full of history

If there is one thing the region of Almería stands out for, it is its excellent golf courses, among which are some of the most renowned in Europe.

In this case, in Vera itself and at a maximum of 10 kilometres away, there are up to 6 golf courses to delight the most enthusiastic golfers.

The year-round temperatures make the area one of the favourite destinations for many tourists looking to practice this sport all year round while enjoying the fresh air and the Mediterranean sun.
